This long machete and its canvas scabbard remain in excellent, unused condition. Made by Collins & Company of Hartford, Connecticut, this is a LEGITIMUS model long jungle machete. The Machete has an impressive overall length of 31.5” with a straight 26” Bush/Collins machete shape blade. The blade is about 2.25” wide at the thickest point. The ricasso is nicely stamped, “U.S.N. / MK-1 / [hammer, hand, & crown emblem] / LEGITIMUS / COLLINS & CO. / 1944” on one side. The other side of the retains a very interesting original paper label from the company. The blade is in great condition showing no staining or oxidation. The black hard plastic grips are likewise, in good condition with all the rivets solidly attached.
The scabbard is a fantastic example of a correct “U.S.N.” / Mk. 1 marked canvas type. Rear seam is stitched and riveted. The reenforced throat has original olive drab paint. Scabbard is clean and perfect in every way.
A very nice WW2 U.S. Navy machete ready for display. [jet][ph:L]
