Waist-up, seated studio view. Appears to be a second-generation image (photo of a photo). Unidentified man wears militia or other early-war uniform. Single-breasted frock coat with cuff and collar stripe. Trousers also have stripe. He wears a two-piece interlocking belt buckle with a knife stuck in his belt. Image is clear with decent contrast. Typical mount with border. Photograph has small tear at bottom. There is a period pencil identification on the bottom edge of the image but has faded so as to be unreadable. No photographer's backmark.
From the late William Turner collection.  [jet]  [ph:L]
