Image is a three-quarter seated view of a soldier cradling a model 1840 cavalry saber in his lap. He wears an opened light-colored shell jacket with matching vest and trousers. The jacket looks to have a nine-button front and piping on the cuffs but nothing on the collar. A watchchain extends from the fourth vest button to a vest pocket.

Clarity and contrast are good. Mount is good however the paper has a slightly toned surface. Bottom left of the mount is marked C. D. FREDRICKS & CO.

Reverse has a decorative imprint for C. D. FREDRICKS & CO… NEW YORK, PARIS, HABANA. There is also some collector information in pencil on the reverse.

The cut and hue of the shell jacket have a decidedly Confederate look to them.
