This portrait of General Ewell was produced by Photograph Universelle of Paris, a firm known for their striking and well-styled layouts. The image was produced from the famous original in an oval vignette. The copyright and a label trace the lower edge of the portrait.  The photograph is mounted to a plain card with the firm’s address at low center “R[ue] de Grammont, 17”. The reverse features a photographer back mark in an arching pattern with a coat of arms logo at center.  Edges and corners are sharp, with a slightly uneven original cutting along the bottom edge.  Surfaces show very mild foxing and remain otherwise clean.
