This rare CDV features a bust portrait of George Custer, very likely circa 1865. The condition is quite good, with only minor gluing bleed through from the mounting card to the photo and minimal foxing.  The surface of the mounting card is clean on both sides, with sharps edges and corners, and a solid gold line border near the edges of the image. An inked labeling signature along the bottom edge of the image reads “Maj Genl Custer”.  The reverse is stamped “JOHN GOLDIN & CO. / PHOTOGRAPHERS / VIGNETTE SPECIALITE / NO A-Market Space / Pa. Ave. / WASHINGTON, D.C.” A penciled catalogue number in the upper right corner of the reverse side reads “118-52” and a corporate notice reads “Additional Copies from the plate from which this picture is taken can be had if desired.” Overall measurements are 2.4” x 4”.
