Image is a late or early post-war view of Graham in a dark civilian suit with white shirt, dark bowtie and tinted cheeks.

The contrast and clarity of the image are excellent. Mount and paper are very clean, however one of the mount’s lower corners has been clipped.

Reverse has a photographer’s imprint for C.D. FREDRICKS & CO…NEW YORK, PARIS & HABANA. Top has a modern pencil ID with collector information at bottom.

With the image is a period ink ID written on either part of an album page or a slip of paper. The ID reads “CAPT. E. GRAHAM.”

Edward Graham was born in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland on August 4, 1827 and at some point moved to the United States.

When the Civil War broke out he was a resident of Petersburg, Virginia and raised a company of artillery being made captain on April19, 1861. Graham was 33 years old at the time.

Later, Graham’s Artillery Company was reorganized into the Petersburg Horse Artillery as Company C. Records show that Graham was present until he became sick on October 20, 1864 but was back with his company on November 19, 1864. It is thought that he became a prisoner at Farmville, Va. during the Appomattox Campaign and signed a parole at Richmond on May 17, 1865.

He died in Richmond on September 10, 1887 and is buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia.
