Des Moines, Iowa held a National GAR encampment in 1934.  Pictured here are four veterans in their GAR dress uniforms equipped with membership badges marching in the GAR parade.  They are followed by a boy scout holding a “KANSAS” sign leading the next group of GAR representatives.

The caption reads:

“DES MOINES, IA., SEPT. 7- ‘BOYS IN BLUE’ MARCH AGAIN-/ IN STRAGGLING GROUPS, FAINTLY REMINISCENT OF THEIR OCE STALWART/ BRIGADES, VETERANS OF G.A.R. MARCHED HERE AGAIN TODAY IN/ THE NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT PARADE.  THIS GROUP OF FOUR WAS AMON THE/ LARGEST.  OTHERS RODE IN CARS.”
