Eye-catching 1890s hat from the Texas Civil War Museum collection. Made to sit on the back of the head, this hat is made from rich purple silk velvet, black silk taffeta, and taffeta covered in black and purple sequins. The brim is covered and faced with gathered and ruched purple silk velvet. The crown has a scalloped edge and is completely covered in sequins, as is the small scalloped tip. A pleated and gathered silk ruche accents the left side and serves as the base for a curled purple ostrich feather tip. A black silk velvet ribbon bow sits at the nape of the neck; the ribbon also is used for the 27" bonnet ties. The hat is lined in black glazed cotton.


Condition: Very good. All exterior fabrics and trimmings including sequins are intact. There is one inch-long area on the inside where the lining has pulled away from where it is attached to the velvet facing.   [cs][ph:L]
