Charming dark burgundy velvet fanchon hat c.1870s-1880s from the Texas Civil War Museum. The hat is made from lustrous burgundy silk velvet. Large stiffened velvet loops accent the front of the hat. Smaller loops and bows made of the velvet and lighter burgundy ribbon accent the right side and back of the hat. A large cluster of wired loops of spaced jet beads is anchored with a faceted button on the left side of the hat. A band of beaded jet beads in a leaf design accents the narrow brim. The hat is lined in brown glazed cotton; two black grosgrain ribbon ties are attached.
Condition: Good – very good. There is one small area in the front where the stitching attaching the brim to the crown has separated but could easily be repaired. [cs][ph:L]
