Leather box in very nice condition still contains its tin tubular insert.

Exterior leather flap is in nice smooth pliable condition. It is decorated with three parallel tooled lines going diagonally across its face with three more running in the opposite direction forming an “X” pattern. The thin leather latch tab is sewn to the underside of the flap by two parallel vertical lines of stitching.

There is no inner flap or ears. The insert is made of 24 tin tubes soldered together. The tubes meas. approx. .64 caliber.

The body of the box is made of plain leather that shows light to moderate crazing. The finial is missing from the bottom of the box.

The back has two sewn beltloops that show light wear. Both have a tooled line border on each edge for decoration.

This is a nice example of an early militia cartridge box missing only it finial. Leather is in surprisingly nice condition overall. [ad] [ph:L]
