Offered here is a silver identification badge with t-bar pin on back. Badge is in shield shaped and engraved with “E.M. Ruggles / Co. C, 89th Regt. / N.Y.V.” Badge is complete and very fine in every aspect.

Eli Miller Ruggles (1840-1926) was 21 years old and from Mt. Morris, NY. He enlisted on 9/3/1861 as a Private in Company “C” of the 89th New York Infantry. He was mustered out as First Sargeant on 10/7/1864. He is buried at Oakhurst Cemetery, Whitehall, Michigan.

The 89th NY Infantry saw hard service at many locations including: Battle of South Mountain, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Fredericksburg, Siege of Suffolk, Battle of Cold Harbor, fighting around Petersburg.
