The handle retains some of the original bark.  “Culps Hill” has been boldly outlined by burning the wood called pyrography.  Decorative patterns cover the length of the cane.  The cane has also been decorated with badges of the 7 Union Corp present at Gettysburg. The wood cut from the battlefield was most likely collected from Culps Hill and sold to a returning veteran of the battle.  The cane has become patinated with age.  A hole has been drilled near the top for a hand strap.  There is a small notch in the wood at the top.  The sturdy wood cane measures 36” long.  [DM] [ph:L]
