This is a nice, excavated 6-pounder cannon ball.  Iron body exhibits pitting typical of a “dug” item. Fuse is missing, leaving the wide threaded recess that once held the Borman fuse. The under plug with spanner holes remains in place. Drilled on the bottom, making it inert; a clean ball.

Fired from Lantham’s Battery of Branch’s North Carolina Artillery. Captain Alexander Lantham had the only 6-pounder gun at Gettysburg and exchanged fire with Smith’s Battery atop Devil’s Den. This item was recovered near the Triangular Field below Devil’s Den long ago by a local collector who lived nearby. This was part of the Al Flickinger collection sold previously by the Horse Soldier in the 1990s.
