A scarce souvenir still bank issued for the 1963 centennial commemoration of the Battle of Gettysburg. Cast iron construction in two pieces with a granite-textured gray finish and gilt raised lettering throughout. The front face depicts a hand-painted Union infantryman charging with rifle and bayonet fixed — well-executed original paint in blue uniform with flesh-toned face and hands. The reverse panel reads: July 1, 2, 3, 1863 / Gen. Meade 97,000 Men — Gen. Lee 75,000 Men / 23,000 — Casualties — 23,000. The base is marked COMMEMORATIVE BANK. Coin slot to top. Measures approximately 7" wide x 4¾" tall.

Condition: Good overall. Minor wear consistent with age. Paint on figural scene intact and vibrant.  [ss] [ph:L]
