Offered here is an old print of the gruesome image of a dead Confederate soldier in the pasture of the Rose Farm at Gettysburg. This is an unusual size for this image, measuring 5.75” x 3.5” placed on an 8” x 5” mount.

Originally presented as the effects of an artillery shell on the human body, it is believed this poor soul was eaten by wild hogs that roamed the area. The original image was recorded on July 5, 1863 by Gardner. See Frassanito’s “Journey in Time” or “Early Photography at Gettysburg” for complete details.

The mounts have a slight curve and are lightly soiled; condition varies slightly.
