Offered here is a very five box that contains forty-two original .56-50 Spencer cartridges. The labeled outer box holds six inner pasteboard sleeves, with seven cartridges in each, totaling 42 metallic, rimfire cartridges.

The .56-50 Spencer cartridge was designed for the Model 1865 carbine chambered in .50 caliber. This box was manufactured by Sage Ammunition Works of Middletown, Connecticut. Barber states this company operated from 1864-1866.

The two-piece outer box is in excellent condition, with no breaks or seam splits; one small edge “ding”. Box measures approximately 4.25” x 4.25” x 2”. The printed green label pasted to the lid remains good and completely readable.

The six inner sleeves remain in fine condition and don’t appear to have ever been taken out of the larger package. All 42 cartridges remain well packaged. All would be stamped “S.A.W.” on their heads.
