Measuring 13” long, this iron bullet mold casts six .36 caliber elongated pistol bullets. Turned wood handles and brass ferrules are fitted over the arms of the mold halves. The sprue cutter is attached to the top at the hinge pin and swings from right to left to trim casting sprues. The six cavities produce conical bullets with a single recessed shoulder.

Each arm is stamped with a “T” on top and “the right side of the mold has “W.A.T.” military inspector’s initials. "W.A.T." refers to pieces inspected by Captain William Anderson Thornton, a U.S. military inspector. These markings are highly sought after by collectors, indicating a government contract and official military acceptance. The underside of each half is stamped “158”.

The entire mold remains in very fine condition. The iron wearing a nice pewter tone overall with hints of a blueish hue from heating. The wood handles show only light signs of use.

It will be a long time before you see another.  [jet][ph:L]
