This is a two-piece, scissor-type bullet mold made of brass. The two halves are held together with an iron pin. One arm is marked with a “2”. The mold measures 7.25” long overall. Brass exhibits a somewhat dark patina overall.
Mold casts a small “Hanoverian” style bullet; solid base, pointy nose, one groove. This pattern of solid base bullet was designed for use in tige rifles. These are rifles that utilized an iron stem, or tige, in the breech that the bullet was rammed upon to expand them into the rifling. This is an earlier style from Crimean War-era.
Mold cavity measures approximately .40 caliber. The bullets were base cast and there is a narrow “funnel” leading to the base of the bullet. [jet][ph:L]
