Old hoof knife marked “G. Wostenholm & Son / Washington Works / Sheffield England” and “I*XL” on the blade. Stag handled hoof knife for farriers with fixed blade. Dark brown patina and light pitting on the blade, but not much edge wear. Stag handle was cut to fit blade. Measures approximately 8” overall.

The Wostenholms were selling knives to America as early as 1830 with demand for his craftsmen made I*XL knives. The company expanded so rapidly, it moved in 1848 to the larger Washington Works on Wellington Street.

This is an old farrier’s knife with a lot of character. Ideal for collectors of rustic tools, equestrian memorabilia, or old knives.  [jet] [ph:L]
