This is the Model 1855 socket bayonet for Springfield rifle muskets (M1855, M1861, M1863, CONVERSIONS).  Measures approximately 21” overall.  This specimen features a dull overall surface with a few scattered dark spotted areas. Complete with locking ring and screw.  Worn “US” stamp on blade flat with “S” sub-stamp.

Also included is an original black bridle leather scabbard. The body is in solid condition with moderate crazing and loss to the outer finished layer of leather.  Both copper rivets are present and facing inward. The stitched seam is complete and unbroken. Brass scabbard tip was originally attached with two tacks; both remain. The frog is of the two-rivet 1859 style and is sewn to the scabbard. The scabbard is unmarked.
