Cast bronze figure of US Infantryman in kneeling position, firing an 1899 Remington 30-40 caliber carbine. Figurine measures 5.75” in height, anchored on granite base, 6 x 4 x 2”; exhibits pleasing dark bronze patina. Soldier wears regulation U.S. Uniform, cartridge belt & US buckle, laced leggings, and campaign hat with crossed rifles on side. Artist signature “C. Kauba” stamped under left buttock.
Highly accurate and realistic rendering of one of the “Boys of “98” in the act of firing. Lower granite base exhibits a number of miniscule speck-size chip. Else VG and attractive. In reputation and popularity, Kauba’s sculptures were second were second only to Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. Excellent collectible. Excellent collectible. [jp][ph:L]
