A “Treasury Warrant" refers to a piece of state-issued paper money, from the Civil War era, that served as a form of currency backed by the state's credit to finance its activities during the conflict. These warrants were often used for military and civil service.

This is a Treasury Warrant, $2.50 denomination, numbered and filled out in brown and red ink. Serial numbered 21229, by the Act of January 13, 1862, and dated May 19, 1862. Green background. Cancelled by large ink “X” across face of note. Fair condition with a few pin holes, light wrinkling, and a fold. Nice color. [jet][ph:L]
