This cut compote is of lead glass with a star cut pontil, American, probably Wheeling, WV 1850-1870, 7 11/16" tall. This compote has a scalloped rim and is decorated with broad arched and rectangular cut flutes, the straight stem also has flute cutting. Flute cutting is the predominant feature of Middle Period (1830-1880) American cut glass. This piece is attributed to Wheeling because of the very bright colorless glass, which was typical of glass from that area. [lj/ld] [ph:L]
